Welcome Back Newsletter from PTA Presient Stacey Weigler

It is hard to believe that we are about to begin another fun and exciting school year. No doubt there are many students who are anxious to get back to school to meet their teachers, see their friends and begin learning new and interesting things.

PTA has been making plans for events and initiatives that will provide learning opportunities for all students and strengthen the Highland-Goffe’s Falls community.

We are working on scheduling family favorite events like the Halloween Party, Bingo Night and Donuts with Dudes.

We are also developing some new projects like a series of workshops for HGF parents. This series of 4 workshops will focus on timely issues that impact families. While the schedule hasn’t been finalized, the parent workshops will include:
  • Educating parents about the ongoing drug crisis.
  • Financial planning: saving for college.
  • Internet Safety and incorporating technology in the classroom.
  • Early childhood literacy: the importance of reading and sharing books with your children.
JOIN PTA
It’s going to be a great year!  We strongly encourage you to join the HGF PTA. Even if you cannot regularly attend meetings or volunteer each week, there are many opportunities for you to make an impact in our school.

Highland-Goffe’s Falls PTA has great plans for the upcoming school year, but we need your help. First, I’d like to thank our outgoing Vice President, Michelle Brown-Ryder. She always provided valuable assistance with every project and was often the quiet voice of reason when things got overwhelming. I would also like to thank Sean Forbes who served as our Treasurer for the past year.

It took a little convincing, but his accounting knowledge and willingness to help at his son’s school was invaluable. Joy Hunt, our membership chair, is also stepping down. She will be teaching full time. Good luck in your new position. They are lucky to have you! Unfortunately, with the departure of these great volunteers we have 3 big holes to fill on the Executive Board. If anyone is interested in finishing out the terms of either position (1 year commitment) please contact Stacey Weigler.

There are many other volunteer opportunities that arise throughout the school year, some of them include:
  • Bake Sale (monthly)
  • Popcorn (weekly)
  • Family Events (Halloween Party, Bingo, etc.)
What programs does PTA Fund?
Here are some of the programs that PTA funds throughout the school-year:

  • Student Field Trips
  • Guided Reading program for struggling students
  • Teacher Appreciation Events
  • Classroom Libraries
  • Classroom Technology
  • Physical Education equipment
  • Boo Hoo Breakfast
  • Donuts with Dudes
  • 5th Grade Agenda Books
  • Student Communication Folders
  • Birthday Books

Help us reach our $25,000 fundraising goal!

In the past, PTA has used many fundraising programs to help raise money for the various programs we support. We have sold catalog products such as wrapping paper and cookie dough, coupon books and student art creations. After the hard work of many families quite often the return is only 20%-30%. Many parents have provided feedback asking that we eliminate such fundraising programs and would prefer to make a direct tax deductible donation. This year we are listening. In response to that feedback, we will not be running a sales oriented fundraiser in the beginning of the school year,
but asking for your direct financial support to provide resources for the many projects we will be funding this year. Look for a details of our 1st annual direct fund raising program soon.

Additionally, ally, there will be other opportunities to support HGF PTA throughout the year. We will be scheduling monthly restaurant nights and holding a read-a-thon in the spring.

We are also entering a year long partnership with Tiny Owl, a photo sharing company. Tiny Owl allows you to upload photos and purchase keepsake items. As always we greatly appreciate your generous support!
