Take Your Family to School Week Events, March 9 – March 13

This year HGF PTA will be celebrating Take Your Family to School Week with a series of events that will welcome parents and other family members into the school.

March 10th – Donuts with Dudes (7:45am-8:30am)

We will be welcoming Dads, Uncles, Brothers, Grandfathers or any male role models that the students invite to a low-key breakfast of donuts and coffee/milk. Dudes can come and hang out and have some breakfast.  Stay for 10 minutes or all 45, whatever your schedule will allow.  We’ll have a picture spot set up so you and your student can commemorate the occasion. It is so important to the success of students to have the male role models in their life engaged in their education.

March 10th – Math Night (6:30pm – 7:30pm)

Stop by HGF with your student to play some math games. Learn about the math lessons that your children work on in school every day.

March 11th – Parent Workshop & Student Art Display/Silent Auction (5:00pm - 8:00pm)

Join us for an evening of student creativity and learning.  From 5:00-6:00 view student art projects and bid on collaborative works as we raise funds for Ms. Rousseau and the art curriculum.  Then stay to hear nationally recognized education speaker, Susan Fitzell, present a workshop called “Motivating Students to Choose Success.”  Child care will be available from 6pm-8pm.

PTA Update

Last week, your children were sent home with a copy of a PTA Update.  Here are the items from that newsletter:

2014-2015 Yearbook

Work has begun on the HGF yearbook.  Individual portraits of each student will be included along with candid photos from each grade.  The 40 page soft cover book will cost $7.00 and will be printed in color.  Order forms will be distributed in March. Students from the 4th and 5th grade are working hard on their cover design ideas.  The winning design will be announced on February 20th.

Family Bingo Night (6:00pm – 8:00pm)

Join us on Friday, March 20th for our annual Bingo Night. Teachers and administration will be calling numbers for the games. There will prizes and raffles and some great family fun!

Celebrate National Reading Month March 2nd is Read Across America Day

Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss! The month of March is National Reading Month and to mark the event we will kick-off the month by celebrating Dr. Seuss’ 111th Birthday. HGF Classrooms will read their favorite Dr. Seuss books and work on fun Dr. Seuss activities. We will also kick-off a fundraising read-a-thon for
the month of March.  Collect pledges for books that you are already reading.  Pledges can be made per page read or in a fixed amount. Proceeds will be used to fund classroom libraries. Details and pledge forms will be sent home  before February vacation.

Yankee Candle HGF Math Fundraiser

Check your child's folder today/tomorrow for Yankee Candle Fundraiser paperwork.

You can order online at and use GROUP #99321722 or using the paper forms being sent home.

This is not a PTA fundraiser. Forty percent of all profits will go to the school, which will be used to purchase math materials for students at HGF.  All orders need to be returned to the school after February Vacation.

Starbucks Gift Card Winner

In January, we had a contest for anyone who signed up to receive the e-newsletter.  We had 22 entries.

The winner of the January e-newsletter subscription "mksherwood" has been emailed, so check your messages!

Remember to share this site with fellow HGF parents. You do not need to be a member of the PTA to follow this blog.

BoxTop Collection - Spring Drive

It's time for our 'Spring' BoxTop Collection Drive!  (Yes, we know that this weather hardly qualifies for Spring, but we're going to ignore what that groundhog said!)

Please turn in your boxtop sheets to your child's teacher by THIS Friday. The winning class will get a pizza party!

If you have loose boxtops, please make sure they are neatly trimmed.  This is a big project and we appreciate everyone's help in keeping them organized.  You can download additional collection sheets here.

Please contact Hilary or Stacey with questions.

Teacher Appreciation Week Planning Meeting

This year, Teacher Appreciation week will be celebrated May 6-8th.  Our committee chair will be Lynda Murphy.  She has some fabulous ideas and is looking to get the students even more involved this year.

There will be a planning meeting on February 18th following the regular PTA meeting.  If you are unable to attend, but would like to help, please contact Lynda or email Stacey to put you in touch with her.
