Spring Parent Letter from Mrs. Matthews

Dear Parents/Guardians,
The month of March has been a very successful one at HGF!  We began the month with both the girls’ and the boys’ basketball teams winning the championship in the city.  With dedicated and talented players, and wonderful coaches the teams at HGF were unstoppable!  Next, we had a week full of family fun activities put on by Mrs. Weigler, PTA President, and the rest of the hardworking PTA members.  During “Bring Your Family to School” week, students celebrated the birthday of Dr. Seuss by sharing a birthday cake, by participating in games that celebrated his many books, and by dressing as story book characters.  “Donuts with Dudes” was a special event that gave students an opportunity to spend time in school with a special male figure in their lives.  Math Night was held to give students and parents the opportunity to interact together with many math activities.  On another evening during the week, guest speaker, Susan Fitzell, had words of wisdom to share with parents at an evening event where students’ artwork was also displayed.  A Silent Art Auction was held so that parents could purchase artwork pieces in order to benefit the art program.  With these funds, Ms. Rousseau was able to buy a document camera and racks to hang students’ work.
In the following weeks, many families came together to enjoy an exciting Bingo Night, where Mrs. Jollimore was able to obtain many fun prizes to award winners.  Teachers from HGF showed their community spirit by participating in this event.  Students in Chorus and Band were also able to showcase their talents in the Spring Concert, which took place the last full week in March.  This evening was also well attended.
Although it is going to be awfully difficult to compete with all of the activities in March, the month of April will also have some wonderful HGF events!  Some of the events will be Movie Night put on by the PTA, the Drama Club will be presenting a play, and we will also be having a skating event at Roller Kingdom near the Pheasant Lane Mall in Nashua.  The school is renting out Roller Kingdom for the evening so only people from our community will be attending.  Funds from this event will help provide more technology for students.
I would also like to thank the PTA for generously donating $8,000 towards purchasing technology as stated in Phase I of our Technology Plan, and to all parents who support our fundraising efforts.  With district funds and donations, we recently have added 30 new Chromebooks, a computer cart, 270 headsets, and 30 mice for HGF students.  Through the Yankee Candle fundraiser, the school has obtained $3,000, which will be put towards purchasing a math program that we hope to have for next year called Envisions.  This program is currently being used at other schools in Manchester, and has been well received.  With ice cream sales, we continue to purchase books for classroom libraries.  The support of our parents has been phenomenal!!  I feel so proud to be part of a community of people who care so much about their children’s education.   Also, on a final note, we collected $861.00 for Pennies for Patients.  Your generosity has been heartwarming!
Thank you,
Principal Matthews
